Any intentional harm or mistreatment to a child under 18 years old is considered child abuse. Child abuse takes many forms, which often occur at the same time.
In many cases, child abuse is done by someone the child knows and trusts — often a parent or other relative. If you suspect child abuse, report the abuse to the proper authorities.
Suspected abuse is not required to be proven. Please, report your suspicions and do not attempt to conduct your own investigation. It’s the role of the Children and Youth Service and law enforcement to investigate any suspicions of abuse.
If you suspect child abuse, please report it to ChildLine at 1-800-932-0313.
You should also contact your local police department or dial 911 if you suspect a child may be in danger.
If you are a Mandated Reporter, you are required to report suspected abuse. For additional information on who is considered a mandated reporter, click HERE.
